What actually extends a system's life here

In rough order of impact

  • Correct sizing at installation. An oversized system short-cycles for its entire life, and every start is the hardest thing a compressor does. This is decided once and cannot be fixed later.
  • Filter discipline. The cheapest maintenance there is, and neglect of it is the most common route to a frozen coil, which is the most common route to compressor damage.
